JAMES LING’S TASTIEST LIFE POSSIBLE.

Anne Berry took the chance to meet up with James Ling of ’The Ale Project’ and ’Second Draft’ in Hong Kong to find how he manages to keep his business sleeves rolled up, while getting elbow-deep into the malts and hops of beer-geekery with curious customers.
HAYAMA BEACH ‘N GOOD ‘OL NIGE

HAYAMA BEACH ‘N GOOD ‘OL NIGE

Our friend Nigel Cabourn’s favourite summer hang out in Japan is only a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from Tokyo, where the echo of cicada calls in the city are swept away with the fresh sea air on the coast. We took a local train out to the volcanic sand covered beaches of Hayama to discover the colourful seaside culture that wonderfully describes the eclectic patchwork of Japanese summer culture. It’s full of bamboo, Hawaiian prints, kayaking, and banana juice spiked with Malibu.

A DELICIOUS STORY OF RACHEL MCBRIDE AND THE BLUE STOVE – SERVED WITH PIE.

A DELICIOUS STORY OF RACHEL MCBRIDE AND THE BLUE STOVE – SERVED WITH PIE.

The Blue Stove; incredibly busy on a weekday morning thanks to mum’s feeding their untameable children, business folk grabbing a slice of paradise before clocking in, and a lot of local Brooklynites in their tattooed, plaid shirts, ripped jeans camouflage. What strikes you on entry is the heavenly smell of baked vanilla, butter, and flour, mellowed out with an inkling of brewed coffee that Americans drink by the gallon. So what makes such an delicious institution tick? We talk to owner Rachel McBride about her tasty brain-baby.

SPIRIT OF THE ROADS.

SPIRIT OF THE ROADS.

An exhibition of the rollin’ anthology that is - our pal Eric Kvatek’s vast body of photography work, poetic in his great gift for story telling through imagery. Hosted by Heavy Selection in Bangkok, the opening was the most interesting gathering of an eclectic motorbike riding, indigo loving scene. Lucky Eric was there himself to document the wonderful hybrid between a romantic vision of the wild west, vintage, and pop-culture all carefully proportioned around a tight knit crowd in Thailand. What a soulful melting pot of badass, new-ass, and old-ass... and lots of bikes.

WHAT GOES INTO A RAD SURF MAG / COFFEE WITH TRIM

Matt is the editor of Trim, a beautiful surf publication from sunny Hawaii, so travelling between Japan and the Pacific paradise, he has latched onto a wonderful way of being. In his magazine, you’ll find great archival imagery of early indigenous surfing all the way to some superb boards shaped by water spirits who have found passion in craft. We asked him a few things about what floats his boat
