PALS AT PITTI / MICHAEL + DREW + NIGE

We took our pals aside at the just passed Pitti Uomo 88 to ask them some important life questions, like what they would do in case of a global zombie apocalypse. We can only learn from the great.

Let’s start off with Michael Williams, total dude and founder of A Continuous Lean blog. We then roll on to our pals Drew Holmes, and Nigel Cabourn who are always top guys to hang with, train with, and chow with.

MICHAEL WILLIAMS[A Continuous Lean.]

1. What did you have for breakfast this morning?

This morning I had fruit and yoghurt for breakfast. I had a very, very “healthy” dinner last night at Bistecca Florentina… So I thought I’d go light this morning. You don’t want to waste a good breakfast in Florence anyways, you spend that at lunch and dinner.

2. What do you usually smell like?

Right now I smell like European deodorant, because I forgot mine at home. Normally this is what I smell like, sometimes I wear a little something like Santa Maria Novella… I’ll wear something fruity, citrusy. Some people would describe me as fruity… No, I hope not [laughing]. Juicy fruit.

3. Where would you escape to during a zombie apocalypse?

Hmmm… I would probably escape to some very non-populated place. A bunker if it were available. There’s a lot of variables in there, like how am I getting there? Am I driving? Am I flying on my private jet? Driving, maybe I’ll just go up to Maine you know, and I’ll just go out in a place I enjoy. If not, maybe I’d go to Montana, or the desert… Or I’ll check myself in to a very nice hotel you know, I’m thinking Park Hyatt [laughingly] that could be nice.

4. What’s the best thing about what you’re wearing today?

That it’s comfortable because it’s so fucking hot.

5. Tea or Coffee? Coffee.

6. Winter or Summer? Winter.

7. What’s the most special vintage piece you own?

I own a very nice old US Navy issued peacoat that my father used when he was in the Navy in the late 60s, and he gave it to me so it’s my favourite thing I own probably. It’s got a personal connection, it looks really good and it’s fun… it’s like everything you want a vintage piece to be. I own some old, old L.L.Bean canvas bags that I think are fun but nothing that has a real connection like that.

8. What is your ultimate jacket button made of?

[Laughs] That’s such a weird question. [Laughs more] Hmmm… I dunno, Jolly Rachers? Yeah maybe. Or chocolate? Maybe hope it’s not a hot day. [Laughs]

9. What would you cook for your dream man/woman?

Oh, I mean I know who my dream woman is and I’m married to her. I think my wife is so healthy that I think she would love a very delicious fish, maybe I’ll take some of the delicious fish meals that I’ve had in the south of Italy and make her a beautiful branzino cooked in sea salt and some vegetables, and a nice rose because I know she loves rose.

10. But do you even lift bro?

Do I even lift bro? No, it’s very obvious from my appearance that I uh…. [Emil laughs in the background] One of the few places that I frequent is athletic facility of any nature, especially weight lifting orientated.

6. Winter or Summer? Both.

7. What’s the most special vintage piece you own?

Actually I’ve got a Swedish Army white sheepskin coat from the second World War. It was a Russian sniper’s coat.

8. What is your ultimate jacket button made of? I just like horn, real horn buttons.
