What’s to come at The Brooklyn Circus this fall are some kicks that will put up a meaty fight to canvas shoe category, with that great BKc promise to rep the history books in all American style. It takes a really thoughtful person with skilful eye to edit something so well that people can understand what it’s about without too much thought. I take my hat off to whoever can.

This is a little exploration into the art of styling, and the delicate art of having your picture taken. There are so many elements to be considered and it can be an all overwhelming experience. The way we see style or coolness if you like, is something that can’t be put down in words. You can’t dissect it, nor can you force to try to capture its essence. So don’t bother trying to force it into a photograph. We take you in on what goes into a PTJ photoshoot with this series by Ryan Plett in NYC.

When we say nice, it’s implied that nice is defined as going-on-a-first-date kind of nice. For our romantic man-drobe chapter for GQ magazine in their NYC office last week, we raided their wardrobe department to give a few sharp tips for dressing this pumpkin season on their snapchat. Here it is for those who missed it, or for the rest of us who don’t know how to bloody use the darn app.

We just want to say that Matthew Dolan’s work made our week in New York. As he did with his first collection, (that we must have raved on about a minute ago) workwear was given a new form. His poetic approach to creation and construction, was spun into thread and woven into realness, was alliterative and continuative, which sets a steady pace for the future of his label. This collection felt a little more consumable, which was a smart move. We like smarty pants who think about these things, it hints a little about what we can imagine the creativity taking us.

We went to The Armoury NYC to try on our favourite things for the changing season (our favorite season in fact) fall ! Nonetheless, the New York institution is a sartorial destination for men around the world who appreciate beautiful textiles and tailored threads. They’ll make you look guuuuuud.

Some super exciting news for the w’menswear department came this week, when we found out our pals Battenwear are making small sizes of their great outdoorwear for women! That’s why we decided to go camping in their NYC studio, in the name of FUNNEST GARMENTS POSSIBLE

Fresh off the press and our pals Emil and Sandy Corsillo of The Hill-Side have grabbed place of ’GQ’s Best New Menswear Line’. Thinking about the ingredients that make a energy bubble like the Corsillos’ and I’ve put it down to a great balancing act of taking and giving. Here we asked co-founder Emil about smells, life, and zombies, as well as explore their tight thread tradery.

History is what inspires and informs who we are here at Ponytail Journal. It guides us forwards, inspires us to create, and perhaps gives us space to revisit our own identity. This week’s w’menswear editorial is much a reflection of history’s greatness that we strive to keep alive. The setting is much inspired by early portraiture that characterised early photography where thought, consideration, styling and the preciousness of each shot were made it special.

Here at Ponytail Journal we love mixing the new with the old. It’s how we believe that we humans move forward in the Universe, how new things are conjured up from our subconscious and how art mirrors our existence. Today we’ve put together one of our classic looks for the weekend so that you can get some of our w’menswear juju yourself.

Presenting some really great French labels that have grabbed our attention this season that we shot and styled for Vogue this week. It’s a mix up of newness and our best vintage military modelled by Sofia Jergner Ekervik and Andrea Solstad who radiate rad-ness.

Not so long ago we styled a little w’menswear piece with our pal Christopher Wadsworth for L’Optimum magazine. He has beautifully shot this short for the project and it’s basically a wink to the in between moments that we seem to pass by in life. Enough said.
