As the weather sinks into a foggy slumber, autumn brings a light bite to the air as we start to rug up and set up camp for the winter solstice. We bring you some inspiration for the colder months in collaboration with our pals at Revision Society who have developed a new set of versatile winter pieces, designed to adapt to the changing weather, and made completely from surplus fabrics from luxury garment production that would otherwise go into landfill.

Let’s take you through some vintage pieces that have us inspired and excited for next winter.

My go-to closed toe shoe in warmer weather would undoubtedly be the canvas sneaker. So let me explore this in a very simple form. I’m taking you over to the most basic of materials, canvas, to talk about how the wonderful fabric can shape the most hard working shoe.

We’ve mixed and matched strong acetate with classic workwear silhouettes, using all the vintage from Down Under we could get our hands on. Pastel tones were the base colours for our Australiana festival, and we even managed to throw a classic pair of King Gee coveralls from the 70s for good measure.

Made By Legacy, our favourite Bangkok flea event of the year, and a bit of a show for people and their rad styles. This year we set up a little portrait booth to show you just what we’re on about and to have a little bit of fun.

The meeting of three really rad women, strangers at the time, from three corners of the Earth, connected by one thing. All that tingles in the air is the crunching of viennoiserie, syncopated by the ting of spoons clashing with coffee cups, and the start of conversational discovery - people trying their best to relate, be relatable, share joy, and give some kind of meaning to existence.

What’s to come at The Brooklyn Circus this fall are some kicks that will put up a meaty fight to canvas shoe category, with that great BKc promise to rep the history books in all American style. It takes a really thoughtful person with skilful eye to edit something so well that people can understand what it’s about without too much thought. I take my hat off to whoever can.

History is what inspires and informs who we are here at Ponytail Journal. It guides us forwards, inspires us to create, and perhaps gives us space to revisit our own identity. This week’s w’menswear editorial is much a reflection of history’s greatness that we strive to keep alive. The setting is much inspired by early portraiture that characterised early photography where thought, consideration, styling and the preciousness of each shot were made it special.

Here at Ponytail Journal we love mixing the new with the old. It’s how we believe that we humans move forward in the Universe, how new things are conjured up from our subconscious and how art mirrors our existence. Today we’ve put together one of our classic looks for the weekend so that you can get some of our w’menswear juju yourself.

Not so long ago we styled a little w’menswear piece with our pal Christopher Wadsworth for L’Optimum magazine. He has beautifully shot this short for the project and it’s basically a wink to the in between moments that we seem to pass by in life. Enough said.
