Spencer Barksdale was designer at Levi Strauss & Co., and senior design director at Tommy Hilfiger before starting his own brand Heehaw Melancholy in 2000. He later went on to work at Calvin Klein Jeans before his 15 year career at Ralph Lauren where he was VP of Denim Design.
Back in 2015, we met when Spencer came to Thailand on a research trip. My friend Eric Kvatek who was in town from New York at the time joined us for a 35 degree celcius thrift excursion to Chatuchak market in the North of Bangkok. Under the corrugated plastic roofing, Spencer showed real strength of character in the belly of the thrift market, and that day two new friendships were formed over piles of old clothes.
Here are detailed photos of Spencer's favourite vintage pices featured on the podcast in order of appearance.
Vintage photos courtesy of Spencer, and big thanks to Eric Kvatek for the cover photo.
