I find myself taking in a deep breath whenever I look at an awe-inspiring mural. From political to social movements, murals act like a billboard that voice issues in society. It’s a renegade artform that speaks of expression and multiplicity.
Like art, murals have no conceptual boundaries, just the physical bounds of their wall. More recently, murals across around the world are increasingly concerned with environmental issues - as climate change becomes the number one threat to humanity. Over 375 murals are instigated by the PangeaSeed Foundation through a program called, ‘Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans.’ Artists from around the globe bring messages from the ocean to the street.
By being strategic about where and what to paint, the project is holding society accountable for their action on climate change. The artists create impactful art that sparks community.
‘You can’t change what you refused to confront’ - John Spence
Though these murals might not create tangible results, they are important in raising awareness within the communities - a voice to our voiceless earth. I believe that art ignites emotions that motivate us to act in making the world a better place for future generations. Well folks, enough said, let the art do the talking.
I hope you guys enjoyed the curated virtual tour. These murals are just the tip of the iceberg, there’s so much more beauty waiting to be discovered. You can find them all here.
