Let’s be honest, I’m not the type of gal to go beyond K-Mart for my underwear. It’s a fact. I’ve never been into anything that is other than functional and totally not into any of that lacy stuff. On the most recent Kapital catalogue shoot, I met a pretty fantastic lass who has become a great friend whom I respect and admire. She is Teo Griscom, and Teo makes the only underwear that I would spend money on. (Did I just make a challenge?)
Her label Unforeseen Circumstances screams a femininity and delicateness that I can identify with, being collectively handmade from great indigo textiles and hand spun beading. They speak of exotic sea creatures, never-never-land, and strangeness. These are all the things that make these garments special to me, like how pieces are adorned with swirled beading that look like detached coral floating in open ocean. When I look at her latest collaboration with Kapital, I am reminded of a time and place where playfulness and creativity are life’s essentials. The Unforeseen Circumstances woman is one with the courage and curiosity to explore the pockets of weirdness that hover around our Universe.
