One of the key research topics for the SS21 collection was based on Borneo’s ancient rainforest and its biologically diverse landscape, and home of the Orangutan. This drew primatologist Birutė Galdikas to the island to study the species in 1965. She has since spent her life and career researching and advocating for conversation of the species in Borneo ever since.
Birutė Galdikas, OC, is an anthropologist, primatologist, conservationist, and ethologist. She arrived at 25, in Borneo to begin her field studies of orangutans. Galdikas made many invaluable contributions to the scientific understanding of Indonesia’s biodiversity and the rainforest as a whole, while also bringing the orangutan to the attention of the rest of the world. This collection is inspired by her.
