Made specially for W’menswear for Spring Summer 19, the unlined ‘Ponytail’ shoe has been developed with our American friends Yuketen, from a classic moccasin for today's hard hitting women. We designed the shoe based on our W'menswear SS19 collection, 'The Revolution of Tenderness', based on 1970s anti-war protesting and revolutionary acts of compassion.
The shoe is made from flesh-out leather, tanned in America, and is not to be mistaken for suede! The difference is all in the feel... Imagine sliding your feet into the softest leather, that hugs your feet effortlessly like a glove. It's so soft that you can hop into a new pair without any painful breaking in process. No pain, much gain. The flesh-out leather is unique, retaining the grain side of the leather, providing a thickness, strength, and longevity (which doesnt happen with suede).
Each shoe is hand-stitched in Yuketen’s Maine factory using a three-dimensional pattern. That lovely baseball stitch detailing you see on the outside of the shoe can only be done by hand. To closely mirror the incongruence of the human foot and deliver a molded fit, seven asymmetrical pieces of leather are hand-punched and hand-sewn with awl, needle, and thread on Yuketen’s proprietary last. The result is that the 'blucher' pieces (separate leather pieces sewn to the vamp for lacing) are asymmetrical, and contour more accurately to your foot while lacing. The base of the vamp (the entire part of the shoe that covers your foot) has been cinched to further ensure a good protective fit.
These bad gals have full-leather insoles, leather tucks, and steel shank reinforcements which increase fitting in the arch and heel, as well as lessen foot fatigue by forming a stable bridge between the heel and ball of your foot. The Yuketen signature tucks are made from 100% vegetable-tanned leather and will naturally accommodate the distinct shape of the wearer. Last but not least, the Ponytail sole is Vibram’s soft-composition outsole, designed for maximum impact absorption on concrete or asphalt surfaces.
